Landscapes

Some thumbnail sketches and a concept painting to plan out my new and improved final thesis scene. I’m hoping to get this modeled in time for the final render to replace the environment I previously made, which doesn’t really fit in. I’m usually reluctant to do digital paintings like this, since they never seem to turn out looking presentable, but this one turned out pretty nicely! I need to do this more often, it’s surprisingly fun. Especially when I actually like the result.

One of my favorite trees from my last post is going to be modeled for this scene. It should be a fun one to model.

I plan to render out a rough cut of my thesis next week and post a video. The whale animation is almost done and I’m not really tired yet(even though it’s 4am), so I’ll likely stay up a little longer and finish it just to make myself feel better. Sleep is for losers.

Rocks and Trees

Here are some things I’ve been sketching that I want to model when I’m not thesis-ing:

New Spaceship

Here’s the new and improved ship design almost finished! I just need to fix some weird smoothing and add some more details.

I need to get it done this week so I have enough time to order a 3D print for the thesis show. Hopefully everything goes according to plan.

Finished(?) Pond

I’m pretty happy with it now. I might poke at it some more later, but I need to get back to thesis!

Random Tree

Slowly working my way through a little project despite my wrist rebelling against me.

It still needs a lot of work, but it’s starting to come together.

I’ll get back to thesis eventually.

Whales and Things

The whales have been ZBrushed and baked. The normals look pretty good! Lauren is helping me paint the diffuse map, because she is the marine mammal expert of our household. I’m looking forward to getting these guys finished.

After a rather intense crit, I’m redoing my storyboard, so I’ve been thrown pretty far behind schedule. I’m hoping to be able to salvage things in time.

Latest Renders

It’s been a while, I know! I’m still animating, so there’s not much to show that’s been rendered. I did some still renders for a test we were doing in class today. I’m finally sure of the lighting in scene one, but I need to lighten scene three a bit. So here they are, in all their HD glory:

A stray lens flare found its way into that last one for some reason.

The girl isn’t properly skinned yet; I still want to fix some things on the model and I’d rather not have to redo it. But aside from that, those renders of the first scene are in their final form. Each frame takes 45 minutes to render, so I’m going to have to make use of the render farm if I ever hope to finish it. This is why I haven’t been posting animation clips.

Once I’ve got the animation refined a bit in that scene, I’ll render out a low quality version for next week’s crit and post it here.

Planet Landscape

I’ve been working on a  lot of animation recently, so I have a lot of slowly-progressing work that isn’t yet worth posting. But I forgot to put up these renders of my planet:

I want to change the sky, and I’ll have to rework some of the lighting because it changes over the course of the scene. But I think it’s improved a lot since its early incarnations.

Create-a-Saurus

Watch it in HD!

More Create-a-Saurus

Render time for this is a bitch. I don’t think I’ll have it done tonight.
